[1] sunrise bleeds over the city lights and the lights go out and so do i and the lights go out so do i take care the edge of the world’s right there and you’ve got a running start so throw yourself over into the dark holy you’re feeling so lonely and the god you’ve found he’s not here much no the faith you found is thin as blood [CHORUS] okay weren’t much for god anyway and now the world is much bigger but you take up the same space yeah your hearts growing fast but now your chest feels the same size oh now when will you break through? through from the inside? [2] cold dawn, july is no closer to over but you take the train just to pretend its October if you made it here you’ll make it there if you make it there maybe you could go anywhere [CHORUS] small fear if you had to die somewhere are you happy just watching it splitting open the sky to the ocean as the sunrise spills golden and you’re gripped with a small fear if you had to die somewhere, are you glad that it’s right here? are you glad that it’s right here? [INSTRUMENTAL BREAK] [BRIDGE] so alive with the sunrise and it gives you direction and the plume of your youth sheds ignorance is protection but the world is so bright now and its big enough for you and the heart you’re still growing yeah, you’ll learn to commit to and tomorrow is coming and tomorrow is thinning and the things that still scare you are a sign of a beginning so hold onto your breath now don’t you give up the ghost yet you have miles to go still don’t you dare just forget it
don’t you live to forget it don’t you live to forget it [OUTRO] hold the things that you love dear hold the person you’ll be tight don’t let up til the dawn breaks and you’re sure that the sunrise will make it to the morning til your knuckles go pale white hold the things that you know dear its the warmth of your good life its the warmth of your good life even if its a short life its the warmth of your good life

[1] i saw a psychic and she told me you were coming home soon and i believed her cause i cannot stand another faithless day down by the river while i wait and wait for you i saw your mother and god help me but i bit down on my tongue even hopes a bitter drink and i dont know what you’d think of where i get hope from and and you got that from your childhood home [chorus] don’t you ask me where the rolling river goes cause i dont know and i do not want to know [2] saw a numerologist and asked him to read seconds of my life asked where god would find me why faith never dignifies me and how far as im aware of time im seconds off im never quite aligned i saw him frown i saw him pray for me without the nerve to speak the words and i went right back to the river and i tried to bathe it off and i tried to be a baptist but im still just seconds off [chorus] don’t you ask me where the rolling river goes cause i dont know and i do not want to know [3] so i saw the undertaker fingers with all rings of many stones and gold tried to turn my pockets out sent pennies falling graceless to the ground i saw it cross her then it wouldnt be enough to bring you home and im a saint now im the patron of all beatup dawn commutes and i think faith’s for those with healthy homesteads rosarys and rings of gold when youve got nothing left there is no food of faith just pennies in your hand [chorus] don’t you ask me where the rolling river goes cause i dont know and i do not want to know [4] i go back to the river and i dont think it means anything at all ive been witherd bone-deep i keep heckling your ghost see i give everything ive left and let it sink and now theres nothing but to drink deep from my open palms and pray in time that summer calls me down and i let it revive me let the river crucify me i let everybody in and i let everybody see me as i am and i will see your loving face again mercy, gave it all that i had left i will raise you from the river bed

about

these two demos were produced during fourth strike's first ever song jam, a 4 songs in 4 weeks jam with various prompts and challenges along the way.

each one of these tracks was recorded, produced (and in the case of wrong number, written) in under a week. they might show that time crunch around the edges, but I'm super proud of how they turned out! enjoy!
